Feet First Dancers Mission Statement & History

Picture
The Feet First Dancers have a clear mission statement, to foster dance in our rural community.  We have continuously done so since the first grass roots meeting.

A non-profit dance company, Feet First formed over 30 years ago in order to satisfy the dance needs of the rural community of Southern Humboldt County in Northern California.  We have danced at the Summer Arts & Music Festival at Benbow Lake since it's inception.   Three generations of children have grown up watching the amazing talent of this company surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

We currently offer dance classes in a wide variety of styles; ballet, modern, hip hop, etc. We sponsor workshops and produce recitals. We encourage and teach all age groups.

Our signature program is our Community Extravaganza Performance, often involving over 50 community members from preschoolers to senior citizens. Choreographers from all backgrounds collaborate on an original production that leaves the audience coming back every year for more.  These shows are truly a treasure not to be found anywhere else.

Feet First Dancers is dedicated to an inclusive, supportive environment. We welcome new or returning dancers of any age. If you are not a dancer, your energy is welcome for production or in stage craft.  C'mon and join the fun!  As one dancer said, "Dance is the most fun I can have without getting into trouble."
